Do you know Potsdam?

We spend one third of our apprenticeship in Potsdam. Do you know that city?

The 4th May was a rainy day when our class 3351 (management assistants for tourism and leisure) met for a sightseeing tour to explore Potsdam.

Everyone could choose one place of interest for visitors. We collected information about these sights for preparing our presentations in our English lessons. In addition everybody of us collected ideas for a quiz to awake the interest and attention while listening.

We started our tour at Central Station and crossed Long Bridge (Lange Brücke) to reach the first point Old Market (Alter Markt). Here we even had the chance to visit St. Nicolas Church (Nikolaikirche).

We took the tram to go to Brandenburg Gate (Brandenburger Tor) of Potsdam, one of the four town gates of Potsdam. Then we continued by foot to the next one, Hunter’s Gate (Jägertor).

After a 20-minute walk we got to know Alexandrowka (Russische Kolonie), the home of Russian singers King Frederick Wilhelm III invited to come together with their families to Potsdam in 1826. On the way to Pfingstberg we stopped at Alexander Newski Memorial Church that was open for a short visit.

On the top of The Belvedere at Pfingstberg we learned a lot about this castle and watched impressive films about its history.

We took the short downhill way to New Garden (Neuer Garten) to come to Cecilienhof Palace (Schloss Cecilienhof), the place of the historical Potsdam Conference that was hold after the end of the Second World War in 1945.

After a long walk we reached the last point of our excursion, the Dutch Quarter (Holländisches Viertel), the biggest residential area in Dutch style outside the Netherlands.

Now it’s your turn to start your world trip through Potsdam. It’s worth it!
