Im Zusammenhang mit dem Thema „Medien und Digitalisierung“ und dem Englischunterricht besuchte die Klasse 5162 die Auftaktveranstaltung der „School Media Days“ im Babelsberger Thalia Kino. Dort sahen sich die Schülerinnen und Schüler den Film „LenaLove“ an und nahmen anschließend an einer Podiumsdiskussion teil.

LenaLove – A film review
The main characters in the movie „LenaLove“ are a young girl named Lena and her ex-best friend Nicole. The thriller is about envy between Lena and Nicole which results in hate speech on the internet. The main message of the movie is how “antisocial” social media can be. In our opinion the movie is recommendable for a young audience (FSK 12) since the topic of social media is dealt with in an entertaining way.
The film is about a student, Lena, who has to deal with lots of problems. Since she has no friends in the real world, Lena is registered on a social media website, where she trusts a “young man” called “Noah” with her problems. Furthermore Lena feels drawn to a classmate (Tim) and his connection to arts. Lena is deceived by her previously best friend Nicole and thus gets the wrong picture of Tim. More and more Lena trusts “Noah” with her problems; among other issues she mentions her mother’s affair with Nicole’s father. Lena has psychological problems after Nicole secretly put drugs into her beverage. The drugs trigger hallucinations and Lena gets lost in the forest. Haunted by dangerous visions she panicks and jumps into a river. You want to know if Lena survives? Watch the movie!
There are many good elements in this film which make people think about cyber-bullying and social networks. You can see the consequences of bullying in a drastic way and the movie also treats much discussed subjects. Negative about the movie is that it is quite long and the plot of the film is fairly predictable. Emilia Schüle (Lena) plays her part as teenage girl very well, since she has put herself convincingly into the shoes of Lena. The other actors play their parts well too. We can recommend the film because it is very informative and you can transfer the ideas into real life.
We watched the film in the Thalia Cinema on the occasion of the school media days. The movie was awarded with a Golden Bear at the film festival in Berlin in 2016.
Die Podiumsdiskussion
Im Anschluss fand eine Podiumsdiskussion mit Sabine Schicketanz (PNN), Juliane Leopold (ehemalige Chefredakteurin BuzzFeed), Jörg Hagel (Sozial- und Medienpädagoge), Dr. Katrin Düring (MBJS in Brandenburg) und dem Moderator Bruno Dietel (Radio Fritz) statt. Folgende Themen wurden angesprochen: Lehrer sollten besser vorbereitet werden im Umgang mit Technik; ob und wie Handys effektiv im Unterricht eingesetzt werden können; der Generationskonflikt zwischen „Digital Natives“ und der älteren Generation; Möglichkeiten zum Schutz der Privatsphäre im Netz.
Am Anfang war die Diskussion sehr interessant und die genannten Themen wurden sachlich diskutiert. Die Schülerinnen und Schüler wurden auch befragt und gut miteinbezogen. Allerdings hatte jeder der vorne sitzenden Teilnehmer im Laufe der Diskussion eine eigene Meinung, die er/sie mehr und mehr durchsetzen wollte. Während der Diskussion wurde nicht mehr auf den Film eingegangen und die besprochenen Themen waren nicht mehr miteinander verbunden. Am Ende wurde die Zeit sehr knapp, sodass kein Fazit gezogen wurde, mit dem alle zufrieden waren.
